Country Life

Early morning in the back yard is bliss for anyone that enjoys peace and quiet.  There is nothing quite like getting up on a cool brisk morning and being able to take the dogs out for walk or run depending on how urgent their need is that morning. You may hear the sounds of birds (am not sure as yet what breeds but I will find out) or the early morning arrival of the truck drivers and workers at the Grain business that is behind our home. If the worst sound I ever hear in the morning is that of a truck arriving and the hum of the grain machines or the wind making its presence known between the massive grain bins is the only sounds I can hear, I can live with that.

It rained bucket loads of water last night and still had a slight drizzle going when I arose this morning and my dogs being slightly on the wimpy side when it comes to rain,
did their business  and promptly wanted back inside. It was then time to wake up my 6 year old son to get him to school on time. He is not a morning person and delays as much as possible in order to stay in bed.  If he had a choice he would rather spend the day happily playing wii games and playing with his younger brother. The usual protests ensue and we go through our routine of being tickled till he has to fall out of bed and then the rush to get dressed "it's so cold Mum", "get dressed quickly and you will get warm".  By the time he actually has himself dressed and eating his breakfast his younger sibling is usually also up and wanting his breakfast too. This morning it was waffles for all!

After the usual hustle and bustle of getting to school on time its back to the house and the usual chores till I get bored with them and look for something more fun to do. Given the rain the night before I decided that filling the old milk bottles with rain water was more fun than doing dishes.  So much water is wasted just going on to the road and land and I'd like to get some barrels to collect where it runs off and keep that as fresh water for using outside. The list of things that I want to get for the house gets longer and longer each day.

I was going to start painting some old tires that we had found out the back.  When working out what we were going to do with them it did not appeal to me to have to pay someone to dispose of them.  After a bit of a search it did not take long to find a much better use for them.

We have several sizes from the small to the large and placement around the property with perennial flowering plants should keep the property looking interesting all year round. Placing them as shown should keep the water from pooling and give some color to the scenery.

We have yet to put up the boys slide and swings and have some more ideas of the planting I want to do around their play area.

I am starting with some yellow spray paint and will take some photos from start to finish of this little DIY Tire Planter Project
